Barrington is a coastal town bordering the eastern side of Narragansett Bay and located just 8 miles east of Providence. Consisting of 2 peninsulas, divided by the Barrington and Warren Rivers, nearly half of Barrington’s 15 square miles consist of water, making it a very picturesque waterfront community. Agriculture provided the basis for the town’s economy in the early decades but with the start of a brick manufacturing company in the town and the construction of the railroad in mid-1800’s, connecting Providence to Bristol, the population increased substantially. Suddenly the small quiet town of Barrington became a popular and very desirable suburb to live in. Today Barrington’s population is approximately 16,000 and it is known to have some of the best public schools in New England, winning the National Blue-Ribbon awards for excellence. The scenic town of Barrington is home to the prestigious Rhode Island Country Club, host of the annual CVS Charity Golf Classic, the Barrington Yacht Club and has a thriving downtown of boutique shops, restaurants and small businesses.
